The main difference between HDDs and SSDs is the way they write data to their media (disks). On an HDD, data is written in concentric circles called tracks that then link together to form a cylinder.

Data can be stored at any point along with these rings but it has to be accessed from one end or the other which means you have to spin all the way around before being able to access different parts of your disk.

SSDs have faster read/write speeds because there isn’t a physical disk head hovering above the spinning disks looking for data, it just reads from where it needs next which makes access times much quicker with greater throughputs even on large files.
